This time we even have groups came all the way from Rancho Cuchamonga Long beach and Covina area, one of the major reason is because their Prom event is taking place at Downtown area. Everybody have lots of fun and it’s always a pleasure to take fun prom pictures. Check out this pictures.

1. Have an “anti shake / blur” capability

many elderly / retirees lose their steadiness, especially their hands. so anti shake / blur capability is a “must have”

2. Have a good “auto focus / multiple focus” capability

the auto focus ability is super crucial, as most of the elderly have trouble in their own visions already. So rely on a good digital camera with great auto focus is a must.

3. Have a fast “snap” capability

do not buy those cameras that take forever just to snap a shot. The newer ones most of them are fast “snap”. you click it, you got it kinda thing.

4. Have a good “Rechargable” battery life

do not buy those cameras that using the AA or AAA batteries. If you use a lot of flash, it will drain the battery life very very fast, and it’s uneconomical not to use rechargeable batteries.

5. Have a good “size” that fits in your palm

make sure that your palm can grip the camera conveniently. Sometimes the latest digital camera is as slim and small as it can be. It is cool, but you might have a hard time to grab it.

6. Have a “video capture” capability

most of the latest digital camera will have this “Video capture”, just make sure that it is also user friendly. sometimes it confused people with their 2-3 steps button just to record a video. One particular camera ( the casio exilim series ) have a simple button for the video capture. I like it.

7. Have a “popular” memory card format

some cameras memory card format is not very popular, or monopolized by their own company. This will drive the price up compared to other format. Not only that, it also make it more difficult to find a spare one in regular stores or overseas. Stick with SD or CF format ( the most popular format )

Scanning Negatives at Home with a Flatbed Scanner

If you have a scanner with the right adapter, you can scan negatives and slides at home using a simple flatbed scanner. Keep in mind that simply putting your negatives on a flatbed scanner will not work. Flatbed scanners are designed to scan photos by capturing the reflection of the light shown on them. Because negatives are transparent, this does not work. You need a transparency adapter to scan negatives. The transparency adapter, when used in place of the scanner’s lid, shines light onto the negatives from above, and the sensors can pick up this light and capture a digital image of the print. Without the adapter, a scanned negative or transparency will look like a big black square.

Scanning Negatives at Home with Film Scanners

If you plan on scanning negatives frequently, you may want to purchase a scanner designed to scan film. These scanners give you a better final image, because there is no piece of glass between the negative and the image sensor. Also, the light is more intense with one of these scanners. They also typically have a higher dpi resolution than flatbed scanners.

Another reason film scanners give a better final image has to do with the density of the image. Photographs have a density of approximately 2.0, and negatives have a density of about 3.0. Because flatbed scanners are designed primarily for documents and photographs, they are calibrated closer to the 2.0 range. This means that scanning negatives with a flatbed scanner will result in tonal loss. This is slight, as in a negative the tonal loss occurs mostly in lighter areas, but it does affect the final image quality a bit.

High Resolution Is Key

Regardless of whether you use a flatbed scanner or a film scanner, you will want to scan your negatives at the highest resolution possible. This will make the scanning process take a while, but if you intend to make prints off of the resulting digital photos, you will be glad you took the time to scan the picture at a high resolution.

Is there any real difference in performance? No, not really. The SD cards are the cheapest per megabyte and are available in higher capacity models than the other (of course that may change with time). CF card, most high end DSLRs use them. The smaller cards tend to be used in the smaller consumer digicams. There’s really no reason to pick a camera with one type over another unless you have multiple cameras or other devices (MP3 players for example) which also use memory cards – then it’s convenient if they can share cards.
